ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT LIST

Equipment Officer Ben has put together a list of gear that is a) required and b) recommended.

First up, the essentials…

Game Day Caps

The grey caps from our Baseball Outlet store are our game day caps and are required parts of the ThunderKnights uniform.

New Forest Jerseys

Covee make our jerseys. Thunder wear blue, Knights wear Green. If you need to choose a squad number please speak to one of the Equipment Officers or your Team Manager to ensure your number is available. Also you can choose a flag to feature on the back, if you want a flag which is not listed please contact the Equipment Officers who will get this added as an option.

Baseball Pants

Can be purchased from various sites including Amazon, Baseball Outlet, The Baseball Shop, The Baseball & Softball Shop, Comet Sports. Game pants must be Grey, but can be Full length or Knicker style, examples below:

Team Coloured Socks & Belt

The socks are technically only required if you’re wearing Knicker-style pants. Any football style sock will do, but here are some recommended examples:

Not an essential, but if you need a belt it must be in team colours.

Footwear

As per the BBF Handbook, baseball cleats are recommended. However,  football boots are allowed.

Cleats can be found at various UK based retailers like Baseball Outlet, Baseball & Softball Shop and The Baseball Shop, as well as directly from retailers such as Adidas and Under Armour. US based stores will have a wider variety but can be expensive after shipping/taxes.

Football boots can be found at most big sports shops such as Sports Direct, JD Sports and
Decathlon

Glove

The club has a limited number of gloves to use, but it is advised to purchase your own.

Gloves vary in price, and in size (depending on position). If you are unsure or would like some advice, feel free to put a message in our Whatsapp chat and we will be happy to help.

RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT LIST

Now for the items you don’t need right away, but you might want to get at some point in the future…

Bat

The club has plenty of bats which are available to use, however feel free to purchase your own if you wish.

SWWBL Division 4 & 5 allow both aluminium and wood bats, however higher divisions and BBF national Playoffs are limited to only wooden bats.

BBF rules state any commercially available wooden bats are acceptable, or BBCOR certified Bamboo Composite bats. Aluminium/Composite metal bats must be BBCOR certified and no more than -3 (drop 3). This extends to -5 for women and under 16’s.

Helmet

While we do have club helmets, it is nicer having your own helmet when it’s 30 degrees and everyone is sweating buckets. Helmets are mandatory for batting and baserunning, including batting practice. When buying your own ensure it has double ear flaps and the CE safety mark.

Protective Cup

These are highly recommended for all, especially when batting and playing infield. It is also recommended (from painful experience), to wear these during warm ups too!

Sliding Shorts

Padded compression shorts which provide a little bit more protection when sliding into bases.  EXAMPLE

Batting Gloves

Help give you better grip on the bat.  EXAMPLE

Sunglasses

Give yourself the best chance to see the ball on those bright summer days.

Glove Conditioner

Keep your glove in the best condition possible. Try out our own New Forest scented conditioner – KODIAK GLOVE RUB
